In a recent report, De Telegraaf stated that Everton were showing interest in Ajax youngster Carlos Forbs last month. It is believed that the Toffees along with Fulham and Olympique Lyonnais were eager to land the Portuguese winger, who decided to sign for Wolverhampton Wanderers on loan recently.
Forbs’ Recent Rise In Dutch Football
Forbs caught the eye at times with his performances for Ajax in the previous campaign when he put in a handful of impressive displays for them in the Dutch Eredivisie. The Portuguese wing wizard played in 34 matches for the Dutch outfit last season, netting four goals and grabbing five assists in multiple competitions.
The 20-year-old made most of his appearances off the bench but deserves some credit for averaging 0.9 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in the Dutch Eredivisie. He even distributed possession accurately in the opponent’s half after making 78.2% of his attempted passes in the Dutch top flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at his parent club Ajax will expire in the summer of 2028. Hence, the Toffees would have to make a convincing offer if they want to stand a chance of recruiting Forbs next summer.
Should Everton Boss Sean Dyche Go Back For Forbs Next Summer?
Forbs is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make some clever runs with the ball out in the wide areas. He can strike the ball with venom from long range and has got the vision to engineer a few decent chances for his teammates in the final third.
However, the Portuguese whizkid is still quite raw and would need time to prove his worth at the highest level. Plus, there are some concerns over whether he would be able to cope with the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football.
Forbs is good enough to add more firepower to Everton head coach Sean Dyche’s frontline. Therefore, it makes sense for the Toffees to try and go back for him next summer but only if the player can manage to have an impressive loan spell at Wolves.
At 20, Forbs has the potential to be a future star in English football which makes him a decent choice for the Merseyside club to consider next year.
