In a recent report, talkSPORT claimed that Everton wanted to recruit Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat last summer. It is believed that the Toffees were showing interest in acquiring the services of the Morocco international earlier this year but the player went on to sign for Fenerbahce on a season-long loan deal instead.
Amrabat’s Unimpressive Loan Spell At Old Trafford
Amrabat struggled to prove his worth during his loan spell with Manchester United last season. The Moroccan talent featured in 30 matches for the Red Devils in the previous campaign but failed to score a goal or pick up an assist for them in multiple competitions.
The 28-year-old made most of his appearances off the bench but did well to average 1.3 tackles and 0.9 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He was even excellent when interchanging possession with his teammates after making 88.1% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at his parent club Fiorentina will expire next summer which could open the door for Everton to land him on a free transfer at the end of this campaign.
Should Everton Boss Sean Dyche Move In For Amrabat?
Amrabat is a good tackler of the ball and usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the offensive. He is a tidy passer of the ball as well but needs to add some goals and assists to his game.
The Morocco international is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also operate as a box-to-box midfielder or as a right-sided wide player if asked to do so by his manager. He has got a wealth of experience at the highest level and could serve as a good, rotational piece in Everton‘s squad next season.
Amrabat would inject more bite and steel into Sean Dyche’s midfield department. He is good enough to help the Toffees compete on all fronts in the coming years. Therefore, it makes sense for Dyche to move in for him next summer.
At 28, Amrabat is still enjoying his prime and has got under a year left to run in his Fiorentina contract. Thus, he would be a decent target for Everton to consider on a free transfer at the end of this campaign.
