In a recent report, journalist Harri Burton revealed that Everton have identified Newcastle United full-back Kieran Trippier as a January target. It has been claimed that the Toffees are eyeing a move to bring the English defender to Merseyside in the winter transfer window.
Trippier’s Impressive Form At Newcastle Last Season
Trippier had a solid campaign at Newcastle recently after he produced a string of impressive performances on the right side of their defence. The England international registered one goal and picked up 11 assists in 39 matches for the Magpies last season in multiple competitions.
The 33-year-old was a consistent performer for the Tyneside club on the right flank as he averaged 2.0 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, 1.7 clearances, 2.3 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He was even tidy when distributing the ball in the final third based on his pass success rate of 79.8% in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Trippier’s current deal at St. James’ Park will run out in the summer of 2026 which could make it difficult for Everton to sign him on a cut-price deal this January.
Is Trippier A Good Choice For Everton Boss Sean Dyche?
Trippier is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to make some crucial interceptions for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when required and is a good runner with the ball.
The English sensation can even set up a few decent plays for others around him in the final third. However, he can sometimes be guilty of being caught out of position on the defensive third of the pitch.
We can expect Trippier to inject more quality into Everton head coach Sean Dyche’s defence. He has what it takes to nail down a regular first-team spot at Goodison Park in the coming years.
At 33, Trippier might still have a couple of good seasons left in his locker to play at a high level. Therefore, he would be a good choice for the Toffees in the short term. Trippier has got a wealth of experience in the Premier League and is well-equipped to make an immediate impact at the Merseyside club.
