In a recent report on Patreon, journalist Alan Nixon claimed that Everton have identified Luton Town forward Elijah Adebayo as a top target for this January transfer window. It has been stated that the Toffees are eyeing the English striker as a replacement for Dominic Calvert-Lewin who could leave this winter.
Adebayo’s Recent Form At Luton Town
Adebayo had a decent campaign at the English club recently as he put in a run of productive displays for them in the final third. The English talent participated in 32 matches for Luton Town last season, finding the back of the net ten times in all competitions.
The 26-year-old proved his worth at times in the opposition half based on his average of 1.1 shots, 0.5 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in the Premier League. However, he needs to find a way to improve his ball distribution after completing just 72.6% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Adebayo is currently playing in the EFL Championship following Luton’s relegation last season. Thus, Everton could entice him by offering him a chance to seal a move back to the Premier League this winter.
Should Everton Boss Sean Dyche Get Adebayo On Board?
Adebayo is proficient at finding some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He can create the odd chance for his teammates on the offensive end of the field. Standing at 1.93m, Adebayo can use his strong frame to win a few aerial duels for his team.
The English sensation can even chip in by scoring a handful of important goals for his team. However, he is far from a consistent forward and would need more time to prove his worth in top-flight football.
Still, there is no denying that Adebayo is good enough to inject more firepower into Everton head coach Eddie Howe’s attack. He has what it takes to fight for regular first-team football at Goodison Park in the coming years.
At 26, Adebayo has his peak years ahead of him which makes him a worthy target for the Toffees to pursue in the January transfer period. Therefore, the Merseyside club should focus on getting him on board this winter.
