An awful start for Barcelona in the Champions League as they faced a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Monaco on Thursday night. The display must have reminded the Spanish team and their fans of the nightmares that they have suffered over the past few seasons.
However, Hansi Flick’s side would like to move on and focus on their next game against Villarreal this Sunday. They are atop of the table in the La Liga with five wins and no losses. A win will bring them back on the track and regain the lost confidence.
4-2-3-1 Barcelona Predicted Lineup Vs Villarreal
Defence
A massive error by Marc-Andre ter Stegen in the early stage of the game saw his teammate get a red card against Monaco. However, he is unlikely to face any consequences and continue to be lined up between the sticks.
Jules Kounde has become a reliable man at the right-back position and his retention is a no doubt. Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez should also remain intact at the centre of the defence. Left-back Alejandre Balde tried his best but couldn’t leave any impact on the previous night.
Midfield
Marc Casado’s rise is a positive sign for Barcelona amid multiple injuries in the midfield section. He will be playing as a deep-lying midfielder with Eric Garcia once again partnering up. The latter would hope to not have an unlucky day and make a useful impact on the game.
As Dani Olmo remains sidelined due to a hamstring injury, Pedri will be operating in the front space. He will try to create chances and contribute to the offensive aspects.
Attack
Hansi Flick has no reason to alter anyone in the front line. Lamine Yamal should be playing on the right flank with Raphinha working on the left wing. As usual, Robert Lewandowski leads the attacking pack.
