As revealed by Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea tried signing Lecce full-back Patrick Dorgu in this summer transfer window. However, a deal couldn’t be materialized due to the high demands of the Italian outfit to sanction the move.
Who is Patrick Dorgu?
Patrick Dorgu came through the ranks of Lecce and made his senior team debut in 2023. In his debut season, he impressed everyone and established himself as a reliable name. He is expected to play a major role for his side in the years to come.
Dorgu featured in 34 games, netting twice and assisting once. He averaged 1.3 tackles, 0.3 interceptions, and 1.1 clearances per game (stats via whoscored). He also made his international debut for Denmark in 2024, indicating his rising stakes in the football world.
The 19-year-old is a left-back and perfectly suitable for modern-era football. He is solid at tackling, and ball interceptions and also marks an aerial dominance. With the ball, he can drive forward to attack the wide space or come inside. The player is gifted with sheer pace and smooth dribbling abilities.
Patrick Dorgu can be a good signing
Chelsea have been investing aggressively in young talents ever since the new owners came to the helm of affairs. Hence, their interest in Patrick Dorgu is not surprising at all. They will try nourishing him to use in the first team setup or offload to book profits.
Considering the qualities and the immense potential of Dorgu, he could be a good long-term investment for the Blues. However, a deal couldn’t be materialized this summer due to the high demands of Lecce. The Italian outfit reportedly wanted a €30-35 million fee.
The price seems unrealistic given the youngster has yet to prove himself at big stages. If the Italian side reduces the amount, Chelsea can again knock on the doors to acquire the services of Dorgu. The English outfit can use its sister club Strasbourg to seal the deal.
