According to TBR Football, Chelsea are planning a move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi in the next summer transfer window. The former club are impressed with the player’s progress and want to add him to their unit.
Marc Guehi has been promising so far
Marc Guehi came through the ranks of Chelsea Academy. As he failed to establish himself there, he moved to Swansea City before Crystal Palace signed him in the summer of 2021. Since then, he has been climbing up the ladders and taking his career to a whole new level.
Guehi was impressive in the Euro 2024, attracting the eyes of major clubs. Last season, he featured in 29 games and had an assist to his name. He averaged 1.1 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, and 3.5 clearances per game (stats via whoscored).
The English defender is technically sound and reads the game well. He is always well-positioned to deal with the threats and uses his strength as well. Though he doesn’t have an ideal height for a centre-back, he continues to impress with a high intensity work rate.
Marc Guehi might be excited to return home
Chelsea made some major signings this summer to improve their overall unit. To address the departure of legendary defender Thiago Silva, they added Tosin Adarabioyo to their unit. However, the club aren’t looking to settle down here.
The Blues are interested in signing their ex-player Marc Guehi as he has already proven his stakes in the Premier League. The 24-year-old can be a long-term investment, who can serve for many years to come at Stamford Bridge.
Guehi has two years left on his contract with Crystal Palace and he is unlikely to sign a new contract. This can turn into Chelsea’s player as they would be able to negotiate a better deal and sign the player for a relatively lesser price. However, a couple of other European clubs might come as hindrances between the transfer.
