According to Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Chelsea are considering signing SC Freiburg‘s Kiliann Sildillia in the January transfer window. The Premier League want to add a right-back at their disposal and eye the youngster as a perfect fit.
Who is Kiliann Sildillia?
Kiliann Sildillia signed for SC Freiburg in the summer of 2020 from Metz. As he found opportunities coming his way, he grabbed them with both hands. He has been a regular starter for the side over the past couple of seasons.
Sildillia featured in 38 games last season, netting once and assisting one. He averaged 1.6 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, and 2.3 clearances per game (stats via whoscored). He was also part of the French side that won a Silver medal in the recent Olympics.
The French defender primarily plays as a right-back but can also feature in the centre-back position. He has the physicality and raw to keep up in the toughest leagues. He is also a good carrier of the ball and can contribute to the offensive aspects.
Kiliann Sildillia can transform himself
Chelsea’s interest in Kiliann Sildillia is understandable. The club has been facing a lot of options at the right-back position due to Reece James‘ constant fitness issues. Moreover, their skipper is also linked to a move away next summer.
Hence, it makes sense for the club to invest in another right-back at this point in time. From that perspective, Sildillia could be a great grab considering his potential and qualities. Should he transform himself further, he can serve at Stamford Bridge for many years to come.
Chelsea are also linked to the likes of Jules Kounde, Jeremie Frimpong, and Michael Kayode. However, signing them will require a massive sum. On the other hand, the 22-year-old could be a cheaper pick and prove his worth in the seasons to come.
