Despite a few favourable outcomes in recent weeks, Rangers started as the underdogs when they clashed heads with Celtic in the Old Firm derby. Despite a few chances early into the game, their wastefulness and shambolic defending resulted in another humiliation at Parkhead. The Light Blues suffered a 3-0 defeat with no intent shown to script a fightback this afternoon.
Below are the Rangers players rated in their 3-0 defeat against Celtic.
Jack Butland: 4.5
Made a couple of saves. But the Englishman should have done a lot better to stop Kyogo Furuhashi and Callum McGregor’s strikes from the distance.
James Tavernier: 5
Tried his best to offer his presence high up the pitch with his overlapping runs and crosses. But he once again underperformed at the back, particularly during Daizen Maeda’s opener around the 17th-minute mark.
John Souttar: 5.5
Struggled to win duels. Got dribbled past a few times. The Hoops’ slick and swift attacking moves kept him on his toes throughout the outing.
Robin Propper: 5.5
Another tough game for the Dutchman who made some key tackles, clearances and blocks. But he failed to offer stability in the heart of the backline alongside Souttar. Made way for Leon Balogun late in the match.
Jefte: 6
Tried to balance his game between defence and attack. Whipped in a few crosses from the left-hand flank. However, the Brazilian needs more time to attune to the pace and aggression of Scottish football.
Connor Barron: 5
An afternoon to forget for the youngster who was completely outmuscled by the hosts in the middle of the park. Lost the duels, struggled to retain possession and was unable to stage attacking moves as a deep-lying playmaker.
Dujon Sterling: 6
Made some crucial interceptions, blocks and recoveries. Attempted to carry the ball forward from the deep before making way for Nicolas Raskin with 10 minutes remaining of the regulation time.
Mohamed Diomande: 6.5
Was combative in midfield. Won the majority of duels, and also had a few successful dribbling attempts. Showed more intent than his teammates but was taken off for Tom Lawrence before the hour mark.
Vaclav Cerny: 5.5
Was largely isolated down the right as the Czech winger was humbled by Greg Taylor repeatedly down the right-hand flank. Made way for debutant Hamza Igamane late into the contest.
Rabbi Matondo: 5
Offered little while he was on the pitch before leaving with an injury around the 38-minute mark. Ross McCausland replaced the Welshman on the flank.
Cyriel Dessers: 6
Wasted a golden opportunity to find the net soon after the kick-off. Was once again denied by Kasper Schmeichel moments into the second half.
