In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo claimed that Barcelona are eyeing a move to land Bayer 04 Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah next summer. It has been mentioned that the Catalan club have set their sights on recruiting the German centre-back at the end of this campaign.
Tah’s Impressive Form In The Bundesliga Last Season
Tah enjoyed a solid season at the German club recently after he put in a run of impressive performances at the heart of their backline. The German talent was involved in 48 matches for Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the previous campaign, finding the back of the net six times and earning one assist across all fronts.
The 28-year-old was a decent performer for Leverkusen on the defensive end of the field as he averaged 0.6 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 3.1 clearances per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He was even excellent when distributing the ball from the back based on his pass completion rate of 94.7% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Tah’s current deal at the German club will expire at the end of this campaign which could open the door for Barcelona to sign him on a free transfer next summer.
Will Tah Be A Good Fit For Barcelona Boss Hansi Flick?
Tah loves a tackle and can time his challenges well to make some timely interceptions for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and is an accurate passer of the ball as well. Standing at 1.95m, Tah can use his towering frame to win his fair share of 50-50 aerial duels for his team.
The German talent has proved himself to be a capable defender in the Bundesliga. However, it remains to be seen whether he can make a smooth transition to life in Spain if Barcelona manage to bring him to the Nou Camp next summer.
Tah would add more bite and steel to Hansi Flick’s defence and could help the Catalan club challenge for some major honours over the next few seasons. At 28, he is playing in his prime right now and is on an expiring contract. Thus, Tah would be a great fit for Barca‘s needs at the end of this campaign.
