In a recent report, FC Inter News revealed that Aston Villa are keeping a keen eye on Inter Milan talent Denzel Dumfries, who is currently on an expiring contract. It is understood that the Villans were showing interest in the Dutch wide player earlier this summer.
Dumfries’ Decent Form At San Siro Last Season
Dumfries had an impressive campaign at the Italian club recently as he produced a string of solid performances for them on the right flank. The 28-year-old scored four times and picked up six assists in 36 appearances for Inter Milan last season across all competitions.
The Dutch sensation proved his worth on the right side of Inter’s defence based on his average of 0.7 tackles, 0.8 clearances, 0.8 shots and 0.9 key passes per game in Serie A football. He was even careful when distributing the ball from the right wing, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 80.9% in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
Dumfries is under contract at San Siro until the end of this season which could open the door for the Villans to land him on a cut-price deal when the transfer window reopens this January.
Should Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery Get Dumfries On Board?
Dumfries is a good tackler of the ball and usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the front foot. He can shoot the ball with venom from long range and can create some promising chances for his teammates from the right flank.
The Dutch talent is primarily a right-sided wide player but can also function as a right-back if asked to do so. However, only time will tell whether he can handle the physical side and high intensity of the Premier League if the Villans manage to snap him up in the future.
At 28, Dumfries is playing in his prime which makes him a decent option for Aston Villa to consider next year. We can expect him to enhance the quality of Unai Emery’s match-day squad.
Furthermore, Dumfries has got a wealth of experience at the highest level and is well-equipped to help the West Midlands club challenge across all fronts in the coming years. Thus, Emery would be wise to try everything in his power to get him on board this January.
