In a recent report, Foot Mercato mentioned that West Ham United remain keen on recruiting Roma forward Tammy Abraham this month. It has been stated that the Hammers are still showing interest in landing the English striker in this transfer period.
Abraham’s Injury Worries At Roma Last Season
Abraham had to endure an injury-ravaged campaign at the Italian club but managed to put in a few impressive displays for them in the final third. The English sensation made just 12 appearances for Roma last season, finding the back of the net once and picking up one assist in the process across all fronts.
The 26-year-old saw most of his game time come as a substitute which could be why he only averaged 0.5 shots, 0.4 key passes and 0.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A football. However, he was woeful with his ball distribution in the opposition half based on his pass success rate of 51.4% in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Italian club will expire in the summer of 2026 which could make it difficult for the Hammers to get a deal done for him on the cheap before the end of this month.
Should West Ham United Boss Julen Lopetegui Go For Abraham?
Abraham can engineer some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has got the eye to create the odd chance for others around him in the final third and is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet. However, the English striker has to find a way to steer clear of injuries if he wants to make the most out of the remainder of his career.
Abraham has already got some experience in the Premier League and won’t take much time to adjust to life at West Ham if Julen Lopetegui can devise a way to bring him on board before the end of this summer transfer period.
At 26, Abraham has his peak years ahead of him which makes him a worthy target for the Hammers to consider this month. Therefore, the East London outfit should focus on going for a forward of his skill set in this transfer window.
