In a recent report, The Evening Standard revealed that West Ham United have set their sights on Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Carlos Soler. It has been stated that the Hammers are eyeing a move to secure the services of the Spanish midfield ace this month.
Soler’s Recent Season In Ligue 1
Soler was an important member of PSG’s squad in the previous campaign when he put in a few impressive displays for them in the middle of the park. The 27-year-old scored two goals and picked up four assists in 28 matches for the French outfit last season in multiple competitions.
The Spanish talent saw a lot of game time come off the bench which could be why he averaged 0.6 tackles, 0.6 shots and 0.8 key passes per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He was even excellent when distributing the ball from midfield, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 87.5% in the French top flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the French club will expire in the summer of 2027, so West Ham would have to make a convincing offer if they are serious about recruiting him this month.
Is Soler A Good Fit For West Ham United Boss Julen Lopetegui?
Soler loves a tackle and can make life difficult for the opposition in the middle of the park. He can shoot the ball with power from long range and is a good playmaker in the final third. However, the Frenchman needs to find a way to earn more first-team starts in the future if he wants to get his career back on track.
Plus, there are some concerns over whether Soler would be able to cope with the physical style and high intensity of Premier League football if West Ham manage to sign him in this summer transfer period.
Still, we can expect him to add more energy and dynamism to Julen Lopetegui’s midfield. He is good enough to increase competition for places within the East London club‘s squad.
At 27, Soler is playing at his peak which makes him a decent fit for West Ham‘s needs in the short term. Thus, Lopetegui would be wise to go all out to recruit him this summer.
