In a recent report, Sport Italia mentioned that West Ham United have launched a move for Nantes defender Nathan Zeze this summer. It has been revealed that the Hammers have made a €20m offer to land the French youngster this month.
Zeze’s Impressive Rise In French Football
Zeze had a decent campaign at Nantes as he produced a series of impressive displays at the heart of their backline. The 19-year-old featured in 22 matches for the French outfit last season, scoring one goal across multiple competitions.
The French talent was a rock at the back and deserves some credit for averaging 0.8 tackles, 0.9 interceptions and 3.5 clearances per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He was even accurate when distributing the ball from inside his half after making 84.9% of his attempted passes in the French top flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Monaco will run out in the summer of 2028 which could make it difficult for West Ham to get a deal done for him on the cheap in this summer transfer window.
Will Zeze Be A Good Signing For West Ham United Boss Julen Lopetegui?
Zeze is a good tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to secure the ball back for his team on the defensive end of the field. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when the opposition are on the front foot.
Standing at 1.90m, the French whizkid can use his strong frame to win a few 50-50 duels for his side in the air. However, he is still inexperienced at the highest level and would need time to settle into life in the Premier League if the Hammers manage to bring him on board this month.
Zeze would bring more bite and steel to West Ham United‘s backline. He is good enough to serve as a good, rotational piece in Julen Lopetegui’s match-day squad next season. At 19, the future looks quite bright for the French youngster as long as he continues to improve with each year.
With all things considered, Zeze would be a great signing for the East London club as he has the ceiling to be a success story in English football in the long run.
