In a recent report, Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness) stated that West Ham United are the most likely destination for AS Roma forward Tammy Abraham. It has been claimed that the Hammers would have to offer €25m if they want to acquire the services of the English striker this month.
Abraham’s Growing Injury Concerns In Italian Football
Abraham endured an injury-plagued season at the Italian club but managed to catch the eye at times on the offensive end of the field. The 26-year-old scored one goal and registered one assist in 12 matches for Roma in the previous campaign across all competitions.
The English sensation saw most of his appearances come as a substitute which explains why he only averaged 0.5 shots, 0.4 key passes and 0.3 dribbles per game in Serie A. However, he needs to improve his ball distribution after completing just 51.4% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Roma will expire in the summer of 2026 which could make it difficult for the Hammers to recruit him on a cut-price deal in this transfer window.
Should West Ham United Boss Julen Lopetegui Snap Abraham Up This Summer?
Abraham is proficient at creating some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He can be a decent finisher in the final third when he is playing regularly and with confidence on the pitch. The English talent can also engineer the odd chance for his teammates up top. However, he has to find a way to improve his link-up play on the offensive end of the field.
Abraham is good enough to inject more firepower into West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui’s frontline. He has what it takes to challenge Michail Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug for a regular first-team at the London Stadium this season.
At 26, Abraham has his best years ahead of him which makes him a decent option for the East London club to consider this month. With all things considered, Lopetegui would be wise to go all out to snap the English talent up in this transfer window. He already knows the Premier League well and won’t take much time to settle into life at West Ham.
