In a recent tweet, journalist Dharmesh Seth mentioned that West Ham United are close to recruiting Manchester United full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka. It has been stated that the Hammers are eager to acquire the services of the English defender this off-season.
Wan-Bissaka’s Solid Campaign In The Premier League
Wan-Bissaka had another solid season at Old Trafford as he managed to put in a series of impressive displays on the right side of Man United’s backline. The 26-year-old registered three assists in 30 matches for the Red Devils in the previous campaign across all competitions.
The English talent was a decent contributor when defending inside his half and deserves credit for averaging 1.9 tackles, 1.9 interceptions and 2.5 clearances per game in the Premier League. He was even tidy when distributing the ball from the back based on his pass success rate of 82.9% in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Mancunian club will expire at the end of next season which could open the door for the Hammers to sign him on a cut-price deal later this summer.
Is Wan-Bissaka A Good Option For West Ham United?
Wan-Bissaka is a tough-tackling defender who can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his side inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when required and is a good runner with the ball on the right flank.
The English sensation is primarily a right-back but can also fill in as a left-back if told to do so. He already knows the Premier League well and won’t take much time to settle into life at West Ham United if Julen Lopetegui can find a way to snap him up this summer.
At 26, Wan-Bissaka has got his peak years ahead of him which makes him a decent option for the Hammers to consider in this transfer window. We can expect him to add more bite and steel to Lopetegui’s defence.
Wan-Bissaka might even help the East London club push for a top-half finish in the Premier League next season. With all things considered, West Ham United would be wise to go all out to get him on board soon.
