In a recent tweet, respected journalist Fabrizio Romano mentioned that West Ham United are close to recruiting Guido Rodriguez this summer. It has been stated that the Hammers are set to sign the Argentine talent who will pen a contract with them that runs out in the summer of 2026.
Rodriguez’s Good Run Of Form In La Liga
The South American sensation had a solid campaign at Real Betis recently after he put in a series of impressive displays for them in the middle of the field. Rodriguez participated in 29 matches for the Spanish outfit last season, netting two goals and grabbing one assist across multiple competitions.
The Argentine talent offered decent protection for his teammates at the back and did well to average 2.2 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 1.6 clearances per 90 minutes in La Liga. He was even excellent when distributing possession from midfield based on his pass completion rate of 85.9% in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).
Rodriguez is currently a free agent which makes him an affordable choice for the Hammers to consider this summer.
Will Rodriguez Be A Good Signing For West Ham United Boss Julen Lopetegui?
Rodriguez loves a tackle and can make life tough for the opposition at the centre of the park. He can make some timely interceptions for his team and doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when required.
The Argentine talent is an excellent passer of the ball as well. Rodriguez is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also serve as a box-to-box midfielder if told to do so. However, there are some question marks over whether he can adapt to the physicality and high intensity of Premier League football.
Still, there is no denying that the pros outweigh the cons of recruiting Rodriguez this summer. He would inject more bite and steel into West Ham head coach Julen Lopetegui’s midfield.
At 30, Rodriguez still has a few good years left in him to play at the top of his game. Hence, he would be a good signing for the East London giants in the short term. However, it remains to be seen whether he can maintain his good form in the Premier League.
