In a recent report, journalist Pete O’Rourke offered an update on the future of Manchester City winger Bernardo Silva. It has been claimed that the Portugal international is likely to remain at the Mancunian club beyond this summer.
Silva’s Impressive Run Of Form In The Premier League
Silva enjoyed a decent campaign at the Etihad Stadium recently as he was responsible for putting in a handful of impressive displays for Man City in the final third. The Portuguese talent did well to score 11 goals and secure ten assists in 49 matches for the Mancunian giants last season across all fronts.
The 29-year-old has been a good contributor in the opposition half and deserves credit for averaging 1.0 shots, 1.9 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball after completing 89.4% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Man City will expire in the summer of 2026. Thus, Pep Guardiola has no immediate need to cash in on Silva in this transfer window.
Should Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola Keep Hold Of Silva?
Silva is a good dribbler with the ball and can still make a few dangerous runs in and around the opposition penalty box. He can shoot the ball with power and precision from long range.
The Portuguese talent has also got the eye to play a few decisive passes on the offensive end of the field. He mainly plays as an attacking midfielder but can also serve as a box-to-box midfielder or as a right-winger if required.
When fit, Silva remains one of the first names in Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola’s teamsheet. He still has what it takes to help the Mancunian giants challenge for some major silverware over the next few years.
At 29, the Lisboa-born talent is playing at his peak and has got the winning mindset to be a real asset in Guardiola’s squad in this upcoming Premier League campaign. Therefore, it makes sense for Man City to keep hold of Silva beyond this summer.
Guardiola would be better off retaining the Portuguese sensation’s services for now and take a decision on his future next summer.
