Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, journalist Pete O’Rourke offered an update on the future of Manchester City wide player Jack Grealish. It is believed that the English talent wants to stay and fight for his place at the Mancunian club.
Grealish’s Underwhelming Season At Man City
The 28-year-old experienced an inconsistent campaign at Man City as he failed to impress for them on the offensive end of the field. Grealish netted three goals and grabbed three assists in 36 appearances for his current employers last season in multiple competitions.
The English sensation caught the eye at times on the left wing and deserves some credit for averaging 1.1 shots, 1.3 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He was even careful when distributing possession from the wide areas based on his pass success rate of 87.7% in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
Grealish’s current contract at Man City will expire in the summer of 2027. Hence, Pep Guardiola is under no pressure to let him go this off-season.
What Should Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola Do With Regards To Grealish?
Grealish can make a few driving runs with the ball and is a good dribbler on the left flank. He has got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the opponent’s half and can shoot the ball with power from long range. However, the English wing wizard has to find a way to improve his productivity in front of the opposition goal.
Grealish is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also fill in as an attacking midfielder down the middle if told to do so by his manager. However, the English footballer is not guaranteed regular first-team football at Man City in the upcoming campaign as he has fallen behind Jeremy Doku in Pep Guardiola‘s pecking order.
At 28, Grealish is playing in his prime and could help the Mancunian club compete across all fronts in the coming seasons. Still, Guardiola would be wise to cash in on him in this summer transfer period so that he can use the money generated from his potential sale to strengthen other areas of his match-day squad.
