In a recent report, BBC offered an update on Newcastle United and their pursuit of Crystal Palace ace Marc Guehi. It is understood that the Magpies have launched a third bid worth around £60m to land the English defender this summer.
Guehi’s Decent Run Of Form At Selhurst Park Last Season
The 24-year-old had a solid campaign at the London club after he put in a handful of dominant displays for them on the defensive third of the field. Guehi registered one assist in 29 matches for Crystal Palace last season across multiple competitions.
The English talent was a rock at the back as he averaged 1.1 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 3.5 clearances per game in the Premier League. He was even accurate with his ball distribution based on his pass success rate of 87.2% in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at Selhurst Park will expire in the summer of 2026 which could make it tough for the Magpies to get a deal over the line for him this month. Still, Newcastle should focus on signing him as he would be a terrific addition to their squad.
Will Guehi Be A Decent Fit For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?
Guehi is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually clears his lines when the opposition are on the front foot and excels at playing his way out from the back.
The English defensive ace has got some valuable experience in the Premier League and won’t take much time to adjust to life at St. James’ Park if Newcastle manage to snap him up in this transfer window. He is primarily a central defender but can also serve as a defensive midfielder if told to do so by his manager.
Guehi would inject more bite and steel into Eddie Howe’s defensive department. He is good enough to challenge for regular first-team football at the Tyneside club next season. At 24, Guehi will only get better with each season which makes him a great fit for the Magpies‘ needs in the long run. Therefore, Howe should focus on going all out to bring the England international to Tyneside before the end of this transfer window.
