In a recent tweet, Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie offered an update on Newcastle United and their pursuit of Crystal Palace ace Marc Guehi. It is understood that the Magpies have made a bid in the region of £50m to sign the English defender.
Guehi’s Decent Run Of Form In The Premier League Last Season
Guehi had an impressive season at Selhurst Park after he put in a run of solid performances at the heart of Crystal Palace’s backline. The talented centre-back played in 29 matches for the Eagles in the previous campaign, picking up one assist in multiple competitions.
The 24-year-old was a dominant presence when defending inside his half as he averaged 1.1 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 3.5 clearances per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He was even tidy when distributing the ball from the back based on his pass success rate of 87.2% in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the London club will run out in the summer of 2026. Therefore, it won’t be easy for Newcastle to snap him up on the cheap this month.

Guehi is a solid tackler of the ball and can make a few important interceptions for his team on the defensive third of the field. He usually clears the danger when needed and excels at playing his way out from the back.
The English sensation mainly functions as a central defender but can also fill in as a holding midfielder if asked to do so. He has already got some experience in the Premier League and won’t take much time to settle into life at Newcastle United if Eddie Howe can find a way to bring him on board this summer.
