In a recent report, COPE offered an update on Barcelona and their pursuit of Red Bull Leipzig playmaker Dani Olmo. It has been stated that the Catalan club are unlikely to pay Leipzig’s €60m asking price to land the Spain international this summer.
Olmo’s Impressive Season In German Football
Olmo had a decent campaign at the German club recently as he put in a handful of impressive performances for them in Bundesliga. The Spanish talent found the back of the net on eight occasions and secured five assists in 25 matches for RB Leipzig last season in various competitions.
The 26-year-old was a consistent performer in the final third based on his average of 2.1 shots, 1.5 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per game in Bundesliga football. He has even distributed the ball relatively well after completing 79.6% of his attempted passes in the German top flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the German club will run out in the summer of 2027. Hence, Barca could struggle to get a deal done for him this summer unless they are willing to meet Leipzig’s asking price for their prized asset.
What Should Barcelona Boss Hansi Flick Do With Regards To Olmo?
Olmo is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can shoot the ball with power and precision from long range. He has also got the vision to play a few decisive passes on the offensive end of the field.
The Spaniard recently helped his nation taste success in the UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany which has raised his stock even more in European football. He is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also operate as a wide player on either flank if told to do so by his manager.
Olmo would have added some goals and creativity to Barcelona boss Hansi Flick’s attack. However, the Catalan club might struggle to get a deal done for him financially this off-season. Therefore, Flick might be better off focussing on some of his other targets in this transfer window.
Another option for Barca would be to cash in on some of their fringe players so that they can fund a move for Olmo before the start of the new campaign.
