Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness urged Tottenham Hotspur to cash in on Richarlison this summer. Wyness said,
“There is a potential he (Richarlison) stays.
“But I don’t think it would be right. He doesn’t seem settled, the fans haven’t taken to him.
“He’s very much a confidence striker like many are.
“It would be best for all parties if he were to move on.
“Of course, he’s a professional player and he will do a great job in terms of effort – I have a very high opinion of him.
“But I think his time at Spurs has run its course. They can cash in if the Saudi offer is there.
“They need something to get the fans excited again. Harry Kane’s gone, they need someone who can be that idol figure up front.
“They need a new front player, they’ve got to make a big move.”
Richarlison’s Inconsistent Numbers In North London Last Season
Richarlison experienced an inconsistent season at the North London club as he struggled to be productive at times for them in the Premier League. The Brazil international scored just 12 goals and grabbed four assists in 31 matches for Spurs in the previous campaign across all competitions.
The 27-year-old caught the eye at times in the final third by averaging 2.2 shots, 0.5 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He was a bit untidy when distributing possession in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 70.9% in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu Let Richarlison Go?
Richarlison can engineer a yard of space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has got the vision to create the odd chance for his teammates up top and is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet.
The Brazilian can be a streaky goal-getter when he is playing with confidence on the field. However, he has struggled to be consistent during his time at Tottenham so far. Therefore, it makes sense for Spurs boss Angelos Postecoglu to let Richarlison go before the end of this transfer window. He is simply not good enough to lead the line for the North London giants week in week out in the upcoming campaign.
