In a recent report, A Spor revealed that Tottenham Hotspur left-back Sergio Reguilon is generating interest from Turkey this summer. It is understood that Besiktas are hoping to acquire the services of the Spanish defender from the North London club before the end of this transfer window.
Reguilon’s Impressive Loan Spell In The Premier League
Reguilon had a good loan spell at Brentford in the previous campaign when he put in a few eye-catching performances for them on the left flank. The Spanish full-back participated in 16 matches for the Bees last season, picking up four assists in the process across various competitions.
The 27-year-old proved his worth at both ends of the field as he averaged 2.8 tackles, 1.0 interceptions, 2.1 clearances, 0.8 shots, 1.3 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. However, he lacked quality when interchanging possession with his teammates after completing 71.8% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the North London club will run out next summer. Hence, it makes sense for Spurs to try and cash in on him in this transfer period.
Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu Cut Reguilon Loose This Summer?
Reguilon is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few driving runs with it out in the wide areas. He can shoot the ball with venom and accuracy from long range and can even engineer some inviting chances for his teammates up top.
Reguilon is primarily a left-back who can also play as a left-sided wide player if required. At the moment, the Spaniard is currently surplus to requirements at Tottenham Hotspur as Angelos Postecoglu has got Destiny Udogie as his first-choice left-back.
Furthermore, Reguilon is on an expiring contract. Therefore, Spurs would be wise to cash in on him this month rather than risk losing him on a free transfer next year. The Spaniard would struggle to earn regular playing minutes if he stays at the North London club beyond this summer.
Thus, it is only fair to Reguilon if Tottenham opts to cut him loose before the end of this summer transfer window. Postecoglu can even use the money generated from his potential sale to strengthen other areas of his team in the future.
