In a recent report, journalist Dean Jones claimed that Tottenham Hotspur could move in for Southampton right-back Kyle Walker-Peters this summer. It has been stated that Spurs are keeping a keen eye on the English defender.
Walker-Peters’ Impressive Form In The EFL Championship Last Season
Walker-Peters had an impressive campaign at the St. Mary’s Stadium recently as he put in a run of influential displays on the right side of the Southampton backline. The 27-year-old registered three goals and picked up three assists in 47 matches for the Saints last season across all fronts.
The English full-back gave a good account of himself on the right flank based on his average of 1.8 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, 1.2 clearances, 0.9 shots, 1.0 key passes and 1.8 dribbles per game in the EFL Championship. He was even excellent with his ball distribution after completing 91.1% of his attempted passes in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the English club will expire at the end of next season which could open the door for Spurs to land him on the cheap in this transfer period.
Will Walker-Peters Be A Good Choice For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu?
Walker-Peters is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team on the defensive end of the field. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and can create some inviting chances for his teammates to find the back of the net.
The English talent is a good dribbler with the ball as well and can strike it with power from long range. He can even chip in by scoring and creating a handful of important goals for his team from the right flank.
Walker-Peters would no doubt enhance the quality of Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu’s match-day squad. He is good enough to compete for a regular first-team spot at the North London club next season.
At 27, Walker-Peters is about to enter his prime which makes him a decent choice for Spurs to consider in this summer transfer window. However, only time will tell whether he can maintain his good form in Premier League football if Tottenham manage to snap him up soon.
