In a recent interview with Tottenham News, pundit Alan Hutton backed Tottenham Hotspur to move in for Lille forward Jonathan David. Hutton said,
“I saw him (David) play a couple of times against Aston Villa and there was a lot of hype around him.
“I think the game at Villa Park, I don’t know if it was the atmosphere or the hype around the game but he didn’t quite hit the heights that he’d shown in his league campaign.
“But there’s definitely ability there, he’s got pace, he loves running in behind, he’s physically well built so he could deal with the Premier League.
“I think it’s something that if they could get a cut price, then they might look at it and he looks quite versatile, which Ange might like as well.
“It will be interesting, I think there’s definitely potential there for him.”
David’s Impressive Record In French Football Last Season
David had a productive campaign at Lille recently as he put in a lot of impressive displays for them in the final third. The Canadian attacker banged in 26 goals and registered nine assists in 47 matches for the French club last season in all competitions.
The 24-year-old was a decent performer in front of the opposition goal based on his average of 2.3 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per game in Ligue 1. He even distributed the ball relatively well, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 82.7% in the French top tier (stats via whoscored).
Is David A Good Choice For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu?
David excels at creating some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He is a good finisher in the final third and can engineer the odd chance for his teammates to find the back of the net. The Canadian sensation is a tidy passer of the ball as well. However, only time will tell whether he can maintain his good form in the Premier League.
We can expect David to bring a lot of firepower to Tottenham head coach Angelos Postecoglu’s frontline. He is good enough to rival Dominic Solanke for a regular first-team spot at the North London club next season.
At 24, David has his best years ahead of him which makes him an excellent choice for Spurs to consider in this summer transfer window.
