In a recent episode of the Transfer Exchange Show, journalist Steve Kay claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are set to rival Arsenal for Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman this summer. It is believed that Spurs have identified the French wide player as a target for this transfer window.
Coman’s Recent Season In German Football
The 28-year-old had a campaign of mixed emotions at Bayern Munich recently after he was sidelined for a lot of games because of injuries. However, he caught the eye at times with his performances for the Bavarian club in the Bundesliga. The French wing wizard featured in 27 matches for the Bavarian club last season, scoring five goals and picking up three assists in various competitions.
Coman was a decent contributor in the opponent’s half as he averaged of 2.0 shots, 1.7 key passes and 1.7 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga. He even distributed the ball relatively well in the final third based on his pass completion rate of 87.9% in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Allianz Arena will run out in the summer of 2027. Hence, Tottenham would have to launch a convincing offer if they want to get the French winger on board this month.
Should Tottenham Hotspur Sign Coman This Summer?
Coman is a great dribbler with the ball at his feet and can use his quickness to cause a lot of headaches for his marker out on the flanks. He can shoot the ball with venom from long range and can create some promising chances for others around him on the offensive end of the field.
The French sensation is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also operate as a right-winger if told to do so. However, it remains to be seen whether he can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League.
Coman would inject more pace and goals into Tottenham head coach Angelos Postecoglu’s attack. He has what it takes to compete for regular first-team football at the North London club next season.
At 28, Coman is still enjoying his prime and is good enough to help Tottenham compete across all fronts in the coming seasons. Therefore, Spurs would be wise to sign him in this summer transfer window.
