Speaking on the Ranks FC Podcast, journalist Dean Jones claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Nottingham Forest playmaker Morgan Gibbs-White. Jones siad,
“One thing I have been told a few times if that they (Tottenham) want someone with power from the midfield. Morgan Gibbs-White is someone they like but they like him as more of a number eight breaking out, not as a traditional number eight. They like that and they like Joao Gomes at Wolves,”
Gibbs-White’s Impressive Form At The City Ground Last Season
Gibbs-White had a productive campaign at the Midlands club recently as he put in a series of impressive displays for them on the offensive end of the field. The 24-year-old registered six goals and picked up ten goals in 42 matches for Nottingham last season across all competitions.
The Stafford-born talent was a consistent performer in the opponent’s half based on his average of 1.9 shots, 2.0 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He was even tidy when distributing the ball in the final third after making 76.9% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu Go For Gibbs-White?
Gibbs-White is proficient at engineering some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and usually generates some power with his shot attempts from long range.
The English attacker is also a good playmaker in the final third and can chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals up top. He is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also play as a box-to-box midfielder or as a right-winger if asked to do so.
Gibbs-White would no doubt inject more quality into Tottenham head coach Angelos Postecoglu’s defence. He is good enough to compete for a regular starting spot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season.
At 24, Gibbs-White has his best years ahead of him which makes him a good option for Spurs to pursue in this summer transfer period. He has already begun to prove his worth in Premier League football and won’t take much time to adjust to life at the North London club.
