In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for Fiorentina full-back Michael Kayode. It is believed that Spurs are showing interest in securing the services of the Italian youngster this summer.
Kayode’s Impressive Rise In Italian Football
Kayode put in a run of impressive displays on the right side of Fiorentina’s backline in the previous campaign. The 20-year-old found the back of the net once and picked up four assists in 37 matches for the Italian club last season across all fronts.
The Italian talent caught the eye at times on the right flank and did well to average 2.0 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 1.5 clearances, 0.6 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A football. He was even tidy with his ball distribution after completing 87% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Italian club will expire in the summer of 2028 which could make it difficult for Spurs to snap him up on a cut-price deal before the end of this summer transfer window.
Is Kayode A Good Choice For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu?
Kayode loves a tackle and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when required and can create some decent chances for his teammates from the right flank.
The Italian youngster mainly operates as a right-back but can also function as a right-sided wide player if asked to do so by his manager. However, he is still quite inexperienced at the highest level and would need time to adapt to the physicality and high intensity of Premier League football.
Kayode would no doubt improve the quality of Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu’s defence. He is good enough to challenge for a regular first-team spot at the North London club in the coming years.
At 20, Kayode has the potential to be a world-class player in his position someday. Therefore, he would be a great choice for Spurs to pursue in the long run. However, Postecoglu has to be patient with his progress before he can unlock the best out of the talented right-back at the London club.
