Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast,, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for Juventus midfielder Manuel Locatelli this summer. It is believed that Spurs would have to pay £20m to secure the services of the Italy international.
Locatelli’s Good Run Form In Serie A
Locatelli had a decent campaign at the Turin club after he produced a run of impressive performances for them in the middle of the park. Locatelli played in 40 matches for Juve last season, netting one goal and securing six assists across all fronts.
The Italian sensation offered solid protection for his teammates at the back as he averaged 1.9 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 1.8 clearances per 90 minutes in Serie A football. He was even accurate when distributing possession from midfield based on his pass completion rate of 86.1% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Locatelli’s current contract at Juventus will expire in the summer of 2028, so Spurs would have to make a convincing offer if they are serious about recruiting him this month.
Will Locatelli Be A Good Option For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu?
Locatelli is a tough-tackling midfielder who can time his challenges well to make some timely interceptions for his team inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when needed and is an accurate passer of the ball.
Locatelli is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also operate as a box-to-box midfielder if asked to do so. Standing at 1.85m, the Lecco-born talent is a strong presence in the air. However, there are some concerns over whether he can cope with the high intensity of Premier League football if Spurs manage to bring him on board in this summer transfer period.
At 26, Locatelli is about to enter his prime which makes him a great option for Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu to consider this month. We can expect him to add more bite and steel to the North London club‘s midfield department.
Locatelli has what it takes to help Tottenham compete across all competitions in the coming years. Therefore, it makes sense for Postecoglu to move in for the Italy international before the end of this transfer window.
