In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs hoping to sign Lens prospect Andy Diouf this month. It has been claimed that Spurs are facing competition in the form of Manchester City, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Brighton and Hove Albion in pursuit of the French youngster.
Diouf’s Impressive Form In French Football Last Season
The 21-year-old had a decent campaign at Lens recently as he was responsible for putting in a series of influential displays for them in the middle of the park. Diouf participated in 30 matches for the French outfit last season, scoring one goal across all fronts.
The 21-year-old gave a good account of himself at the centre of the park based on his average of 1.1 tackles, 1.1 shots, 0.8 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He was even excellent when distributing the ball from midfield, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 84.3% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at the French club will run out in the summer of 2028. Thus, Spurs would have to make a convincing offer if they are serious about winning the race for his services in this summer transfer window.
Tottenham Hotspur Are Among The Clubs Hoping To Sign Diouf: Is He A Prospect For The Future?
Diouf is a good tackler of the ball and can create some decent chances for others around him in the opponent’s half. He is a good dribbler as well and can shoot the ball with venom from long range. However, the French talent is still quite raw and would need time to prove his worth at the highest level.
At 21, Diouf is undoubtedly a prospect to watch out for in the long run. Therefore, Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu would be wise to try everything in his power to lure the French midfield ace to North London this summer.
Diouf is already good enough to serve as a good rotational piece in Tottenham‘s match-day squad this season. However, he would need some time to adjust to the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football If Postecoglu manages to get him on board in this transfer window.
