In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo mentioned that Real Madrid have identified Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni as a target for this summer transfer window. It has been stated that Los Blancos are eyeing the Italy international as a replacement for Nacho Fernandez who recently sealed a move to Saudi Arabia.
Bastoni’s Impressive Form In Serie A
Bastoni had a solid campaign at San Siro recently as he was responsible for putting in a run of dominant displays at the heart of Inter’s backline. The Italian talent played in 37 matches for the Italian club last season, scoring one goal and grabbing four assists across multiple competitions.
The 25-year-old was a reliable performer when defending inside his half based on his average of 1.6 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 1.5 clearances per game in Serie A. He was even accurate with his ball distribution after completing 89.8% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Inter will run out in the summer of 2028 which could make it difficult for Real Madrid to sign him on a cut-price deal later this year.
Is Bastoni A Good Signing For Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti?
Bastoni loves a tackle and can make some timely interceptions for his side on the defensive end of the field. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and is even proficient at playing his way out from the back.
Standing at 1.90, the Italian centre-back can use his robust frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. However, it remains to be seen whether he can maintain his good form in Spanish football if Los Blancos manage to bring him on board before the end of this summer transfer window.
Bastoni would bring more bite and steel to Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti’s defence. He could help Los Blancos compete for a lot of major silverware over the next few years.
At 25, Bastoni has his best years ahead of him which makes him a great signing for the Madrid giants to consider in the long run. He is good enough to nail down a regular first-team spot at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium next season. Thus, Ancelotti should focus on snapping him up soon.
