In a recent report, Defensa Central mentioned that Real Madrid are hoping to re-sign Chelsea keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga this summer. It has been stated that Los Blancos have identified the Spanish custodian as a replacement for Andriy Lunin ahead of a potential move for him next year.
Arrizabalaga’s Impressive Loan Spell At Real Madrid Last Season
Arrizabalaga had a decent loan spell at the Madrid club in the previous campaign when he produced a run of impressive displays for them in La Liga. The Spanish talent played in 20 matches for Los Blancos last season, conceding 18 times and keeping nine clean sheets on all fronts.
The 29-year-old deserves some credit for averaging 0.6 clearances and 3.4 long balls per game in La Liga. He even distributed the ball relatively well after making 82.5% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at his parent club Chelsea will run out at the end of this campaign which could open the door for Real Madrid to sign him on a free transfer next summer.
Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Bring Arrizabalaga Back Next Summer?
Arrizabalaga has got some valuable experience at the highest level and can be a safe pair of hands in between the sticks when he is playing regularly on the field. He can use his quick reflexes to make some top saves at the back and doesn’t mind clearing the danger when needed.
The Spanish custodian already knows the Madrid club well from his loan spell with them last season. He is good enough to serve as an ideal understudy to Thibaut Courtois at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in the coming seasons.
We can expect Arrizabalaga to bring more quality and depth to Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti’s squad. He would even serve as a good replacement for Andriy Lunin at the Madrid club.
At 29, Arrizabalaga is still playing in his prime and could help Los Blancos challenge for some major honours over the next few years. Therefore, it makes sense for Ancelotti to try and bring the Spanish keeper back to the Bernabeu when he becomes a free agent at the end of this season.
