Chelsea will host Manchester City at Stamford Bridge this Sunday to kick-off their 2024-25 campaign. They have had a busy window, where they announced several arrivals. After a dismal season last time, it will be interesting to see how they do this time.
The match will be crucial for the Blues as it will set the tone for this season. The fans will expect to see a different side under the leadership of new boss Enzo Maresca.
4-2-3-1 Chelsea Predicted Lineup Vs Manchester City
Defence
Robert Sanchez is expected to start between the sticks, keeping newcomer Filip Jorgensen on the bench.
In the absence of Reece James, Malo Gusto will start in the right-back position. For the left full-back role, Marc Cucurella is an easy pick ahead of Ben Chilwell.
Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana should form the heart of the defence. It means the likes of Wesley Fofana, Tosin Adarabioyo, Benoit Badiashile, and Axel Disasi will have to wait for their chances.
Midfield
Romeo Lavia has emerged as a top pick for the midfielder and he will partner up with Enzo Fernandez in the middle of the park.
However, if Enzo Maresca decides to go a bit defensive, Moises Caicedo or Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall could be included in the line-up.
Attack
The man of the last season, Cole Palmer will again take charge at the centre. He will have the freedom to play his football in a free-flowing manner.
New arrival Pedro Neto is likely to feature on the left wing, though he can feature in other positions too. On the other wing, Noni Madueke is expected to start ahead of Raheem Sterling, Mykhailo Mudryk and Christopher Nkunku.
Marc Guiu’s displays in the pre-season were too good and there’s no reason for him to not start. Hence, Nicolas Jackson will have to warm the bench for this game.
