In a recent report, The Athletic claimed that Newcastle United have identified Nottingham Forest ace Anthony Elanga as a target. It has been stated that the Magpies are hoping to sign the Swedish wide player before the end of this summer transfer window.
Elanga’s Impressive Season At The City Ground Last Season
Elanga had a decent campaign at the Midlands club as he produced a run of productive displays for them in the final third. The 22-year-old found the back of the net five times and secured nine assists in 39 matches for Nottingham last season across all competitions.
The Swedish talent caught the eye at times with his performances on the right flank and did well to average 1.5 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He was even tidy when distributing the ball in the opposition half after completing 75.3% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the City Ground will run out in the summer of 2028 which could make it difficult for the Magpies to sign him on the cheap this month.
Should Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe Go For Elanga?
Elanga is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can use his pace well to get in behind the opponent’s backline. He can shoot the ball with venom from long range and has got the vision to orchestrate a few inviting chances for his teammates up top.
The Swedish sensation is primarily a right-sided wide player but can also operate as a left-winger or play as a striker down the middle if needed. We can expect him to inject more firepower into Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe’s attack.
Elanga has what it takes to fight for regular first-team football at St. James’ Park next season. He has got some valuable experience in Premier League football under his belt and won’t take much time to adjust to life at the Tyneside club. Therefore, it makes sense for the Magpies to go for a player of Elanga’s quality and skill set in this summer transfer period.
At 22, Elanga has the potential to be a future star in English football which makes him a good option for Newcastle to consider in the long run.
