Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, renowned journalist Pete O’Rourke revealed that Newcastle United are preparing to launch a move for Barcelona ace Ferran Torres this summer. It has been stated that the Magpies are ready to make a convincing offer for the Spanish attacker in this transfer window.
Torres’ Important Role At The Nou Camp Last Season
Torres was a decent rotational piece in Barcelona’s match-day squad in the previous campaign and managed to put in a handful of impressive displays for the Catalan club in the final third. The 24-year-old banged in 11 goals and earned four assists in 42 matches last season across all fronts.
The Spanish talent made a lot of his appearances as a substitute but did well to average 1.3 shots and 0.9 key passes per 90 minutes in La Liga. He was even tidy when distributing possession in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 80.4% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Catalan club will run out in the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for the Magpies to snap him up on a cut-price deal this month.
What Will Torres Add To Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe’s Side?
Torres excels at finding some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the vision to create a few promising chances for his teammates up top and is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet.
The Spanish sensation can chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals in the final third. He is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also operate as a right-winger or as a centre-forward if told to do so.
Torres would add more firepower to Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe’s frontline. He has what it takes to fight for regular first-team football at the Tyneside club in the coming years. Therefore, the Magpies would be wise to get a deal done for the Spanish sensation before the end of this transfer window. At 24, Torres has his best years ahead of him which makes him a good choice for the Tyneside giants to consider this month.
