In a recent report, iNews stated that Newcastle United are keeping a keen eye on Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah this summer. It has been revealed that the Magpies have identified the English centre-back as a target for this summer transfer window.
Chalobah’s Recent Form In The Premier League
Chalobah was a good rotational piece in Chelsea’s match-day squad last season when he put in a few solid displays for them on the defensive third of the pitch. The 25-year-old scored one goal in 17 matches for the Blues in the previous campaign across all fronts.
The English talent was a rock at the back for the West London club and did well to average 1.2 tackles, 0.6 interceptions and 3.8 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He was even tidy when distributing possession after completing 89.6% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at Chelsea will expire in the summer of 2028 which could make it difficult for Newcastle to sign him on a cut-price deal this month.
Should Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe Go For Chalobah?
Chalobah is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to secure the ball back for his side inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when required and can use his robust 1.92m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air.
The English defensive ace is a good passer of the ball as well. He is primarily a central defender but can also operate as a defensive midfielder or as a right-back if asked to do so by his manager.
Chalobah would enhance the quality of Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe’s squad. He is good enough to fight for regular first-team football at St. James’ Park this season. The English sensation already knows the Premier League well and won’t take much time to adjust to life at the Tyneside club if Howe manages to bring him on board this month.
At 25, Chalobah’s peak years are ahead of him which makes him a worthy target for the Magpies to pursue this summer. All in all, Newcastle should focus on going for someone with his skill set before the end of this transfer window.
