In a recent tweet, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka is set to have his medical at West Ham United soon. It has been revealed that the Hammers have got a verbal agreement in place to sign the English full-back from the Red Devils this month.
Wan-Bissaka’s Recent Form In The Premier League
Wan-Bissaka struggled to nail down a regular starting spot at Old Trafford last season but managed to put in a handful of solid displays on the right side of Erik ten Hag’s defence. The English talent made 30 appearances for the Red Devils in the previous campaign, picking up three assists across multiple competitions.
The 26-year-old performed his defensive duties well as he averaged 1.9 tackles, 1.9 interceptions, 2.5 clearances and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He even distributed the ball well from the right wing based on his pass completion rate of 82.9% in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).
Wan-Bissaka’s current deal at Man United expires at the end of next season. Hence, it is no surprise that West Ham have decided to move in for him this off-season.
Is Wan-Bissaka A Good Signing For West Ham United?
Wan-Bissaka can get stuck in with a few solid tackles to make life tough for the opposition attackers. He can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his side inside his half and doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed. The English sensation is a strong runner with the ball as well. However, he needs to find a way to add more goals and assists to his game.
Wan-Bissaka is primarily a right-back but can also play as a left-back if told to do so by his manager. We can expect him to add more quality to West Ham head coach Julen Lopetegui’s defence. He might even help the Hammers compete on all fronts over the next few years.
At 26, Wan-Bissaka is about to enter his prime which makes him a decent signing for the East London club to pull off in this summer transfer period. He already knows the Premier League well and won’t take much time to adjust to life at the London Stadium.
