According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are ready to let go of attacker Facundo Pellistri this summer as they don’t count on him. They are currently in talks with Panathinaikos over the transfer of the youngster and a deal could be cracked soon.
The disappointing case of Facundo Pellistri
Facundo Pellistri joined Manchester United in 2020 with high expectations. However, he failed to deliver up to the expectations. He was also sent on loan spells so that he could develop his game further. But nothing has worked till now.
Pellistri started the previous season at Old Trafford but was loaned out to Granada in the winter. He featured in 29 games, netting twice and assisting thrice. He averaged 0.6 shots, 0.7 key passes, and 0.7 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored).
The Urugian attacker is versatile to play on both sides of the field. He is technically sound, and fast, and has dribbling skills and vision to deliver key passes. He is an old-fashioned winger, who doesn’t fear going in one one-on-one situations against the defenders.
Will Manchester United regret selling Facundo Pellistri?
The move to Old Trafford hasn’t worked quite well for Facundo Pellistri. While he was always rated highly, he has miserably failed to live up to the expectations. With high-quality players already in Manchester United’s squad, he is unlikely to get enough game-time.
It’s important for Pellistri to get adequate game time to keep developing his game. As Erik Ten Hag doesn’t count on the youngster, the club are ready to offload him this summer. They are holding talks with Panathinaikos, who have shown interest in signing the player.
It will be interesting to see if the Red Devils will regret this move in the future or not. For now, they have some world-class players for the wide areas but they still need reinforcement. Due to the inconsistency of the attackers, they have suffered to find the back of the net very often.
