As reported by the Mail, Manchester United have made their first bid for Burnley midfielder Sander Berge. This comes after the Premier League club have failed to convince PSG to sell Manuel Ugarte at a lower valuation this summer.
Sander Berge is open to leaving Burnley
Sander Berge signed for Burnley from Sheffield United last summer. In a short span, the player managed to impress everyone and win the faith of the management. His impressive displays caught the attention of the major clubs.
Berge was a standout performer for Burnley in their dismal campaign last season. He scored two goals and as many assists in 40 games. He averaged 2.1 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, and 1.6 clearances per game (stats via whoscored).
The Norwegian is perfect as a deep-lying midfielder. He has great control over the ball, makes line-breaking passes, and excels at dribblings. He is also good at winning the possession back and blocking the shots to provide the defensive solidity.
Manchester United’s bid likely to get rejected
Manchester United made PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte their priority for this summer window. However, both the parties have failed to agree on a valuation and the deal is looking to fall down. Hence, the English club have started looking for alternatives.
One of the alternatives they have on the list is Burnley midfielder Sander Berge for whom they have recently placed a bid. It has been learnt that they offered around £20m for the player. However, Burnley has rejected the bid as they value the defensive midfielder at £30m.
In another major blow, Fulham are set to complete Berge’s signing as the player has arrived in London with medicals booked. The deal will take place for a £20m initial fee plus £5m add-ons. That means the Red Devils will have to look out for someone else in the market.
