According to Daily Mirror, Manchester United are willing to hijack Liverpool’s move for Giorgi Mamardashvili this summer. However, the former club will have to first raise funds by offloading Jadon Sancho before attempting to steal the player.
Giorgi Mamardashvili’s journey so far
Giorgi Mamardashvili joined Valencia in the summer of 2021. Impressed by his pre-season performances, the club decided to allot him the primary goalkeeper role. The decision turned out to be accurate as the player continued his strong displays.
Mamardashvili has been a solid performer for the Spanish club between the sticks. He is reliable and an integral part of the side. He appeared in 37 games last season, keeping 13 clean sheets while conceding 41 goals in the process.
The Georgian shot-stopper is known for his strong hands and quick reflexes. He remains calm under pressure and commands his area really well. As he stands over 6 feet, he has immense reach apart from being a decent distributor of the ball.
Can Manchester United sell Jadon Sancho?
Manchester United have been proactive in the transfer market so far. They have made some huge signings in the form of Noussair Mazraoui, Matthijs de Ligt, Joshua Zirkzee, and Leny Yoro. Aiming to not stop anytime soon, Giorgi Mamardashvili is on their radar.
Mamardashvili has been one of the best goalkeepers in the La Liga league over the past couple of seasons. He has immense potential and all the traits to script a legacy of his own. The 23-year-old could be a long-term investment for any club.
Available for around £34 million, Mamardashvili’s pursuit shouldn’t be a headache for the Red Devils. Though arch-rivals Liverpool are leading the race, Manchester United could hijack it. However, the latter will have to raise funds first. They can raise a good amount by selling attacker Jadon Sancho, who is not in the plans of boss Erik Ten Hag.
