According to Football Transfers, Manchester United have added Burnley midfielder Sander Berge to the list of possible targets. However, they will only make moves to sign him if they fail to sign PSG’s Manuel Ugarte this summer.
Sander Berge’s journey so far
Sander Berge made a switch to Burnley from Sheffield United last summer. He was integrated into the first lineup immediately and was given a crucial role in the side. Living up to the expectations, he performed well and showcased his skills on the field.
Berge played a key role in helping Burnley win the Championship last season. He appeared in 40 games, netting two goals and as many assists. He averaged 2.1 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, and 1.6 clearances per game (stats via whoscored).
The Norwegian midfielder is suited in a deep-lying role but is versatile to take up other roles as well. He enjoys a fair advantage when it comes to defensive work due to his broad reach and strong physicality. He distributes the ball neatly and often makes line-breaking passes.
Sander Berge won’t be a bad pick either
It’s not a secret that Manchester United are big admirers of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) midfielder Manuel Ugarte. They are even making advanced moves to acquire his services this summer. However, the club is also preparing a backup option in case they need it.
The Red Devils have identified Burnley’s Sander Berge as a possible target. The player has a similar profile and prior Premier League experience. Moreover, it will be a lot easier to negotiate and crack a deal with Burnley than PSG.
As Casemiro is expected to depart from the Old Trafford in the coming weeks, Manchester United need someone to fill his shoes. Having similar characteristics, Berge can do the job perfectly and fit into Erik Ten Hag’s system. The 26-year-old is open to joining the Red Devils too.
