In a recent report, Sky Sports Germany stated that Manchester City talent Yan Couto is set to complete his move to Borussia Dortmund soon. It is believed that the Mancunian giants have given the green light to the Brazilian talent who will now join the German club’s pre-season training camp.
Couto’s Impressive Loan Spell In La Liga
Couto had a positive loan spell at the Spanish club as he put in a series of impressive displays for them on the right flank. The 22-year-old registered a couple of goals and picked up ten assists in 39 matches for Girona last season across various competitions.
The talented full-back managed to catch the eye by averaging 1.3 tackles, 0.5 clearances, 0.9 shots, 0.8 key passes and 1.4 dribbles per game in La Liga. He even distributed the ball accurately from the right wing based on his pass success rate of 82.6% in the Spanish top flight (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at Man City will expire in the summer of 2026. Still, Pep Guardiola could be inclined to move him on as he won’t feature in his plans for this upcoming campaign.
Manchester City Talent Yan Couto Is Set To Join Borussia Dortmund: Good Move For Everyone Involved?
Couto can get stuck in with a few solid tackles to make life tough for the opposition and doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed. He can strike the ball with venom from long range and has got the eye to set up a few inviting chances for his teammates up top.
The Brazilian sensation is a good dribbler with the ball as well but needs to add more goals and assists to his game. Couto is mainly a right-back but can also serve as a right-winger if needed. Someone with his skill set needs to play regularly, so it makes sense for the player to seal a permanent move away from the Etihad Stadium this summer.
Pep Guardiola can also benefit from moving Couto on as he looks to trim some of the deadwood from his Man City squad this off-season. The Mancunian club can now use the money generated from his sale to strengthen other areas of their squad before the end of this summer transfer period.
