In a recent report, Goal.com revealed that Manchester City remain keen on signing Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. However, the Brazilian talent has recently committed his future via a heartfelt post on social media despite interest from Pep Guardiola’s team this summer.
Guimaraes’ Excellent Form At Newcastle Last Season
Guimaraes had another impressive campaign at St. James’ Park after he put in a string of influential performances at the centre of Eddie Howe’s midfield. The Brazilian midfield ace made 50 appearances for the Magpies last season, netting seven goals and grabbing ten assists in various competitions.
The 26-year-old managed to catch the eye at both ends of the pitch as he averaged 2.4 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, 0.5 clearances, 1.3 shots, 1.7 key passes and 1.9 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He was even accurate when distributing possession from midfield based on his pass completion rate of 85% in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Guimaraes’ current deal at Newcastle will run out in the summer of 2028 which could make it tough for Man City to snap him up on the cheap later this year.
Should Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola Get Guimaraes On Board?
Guimaraes is a tough-tackling midfielder who can make some important interceptions for his team in the middle of the park. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the offensive and can strike the ball with venom from long range.
The Brazilian talent has also got the vision to create some meaningful openings for his teammates in the final third and is a good runner with the ball at his feet. He mainly operates as a defensive midfielder but can also function as a box-to-box midfielder if asked to do so.
Guimaraes would no doubt enhance the quality of Man City head coach Pep Guardiola’s first XI. He is more than capable of securing a regular starting spot at the Etihad Stadium in the coming seasons.
At 26, Guimaraes has his best years ahead of him which makes him a decent option for the Mancunian giants to consider in this summer transfer window. He already knows the Premier League well and could help Man City compete for a lot of major trophies in the future. Thus, Guardiola should go all out to get him on board this summer.
