Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, journalist Pete O’Rourke stated that Manchester City have identified Real Madrid forward Rodrygo as a target for this summer transfer window. It has been claimed that Pep Guardiola‘s side are showing interest in signing the Brazilian forward this month.
Rodrygo’s Decent Form In Spanish Football Last Season
Rodrygo had a brilliant campaign at the Madrid club after he put in a string of impressive performances for them in La Liga. The Brazilian talent was involved in 51 matches for Los Blancos last season, scoring 17 times and picking up nine assists across various competitions.
The 23-year-old led the line well for Real Madrid as he averaged 2.6 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has also been careful when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 89.9% in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Madrid club will run out in the summer of 2028, so it won’t be easy for Man City to get a deal done for him on the cheap in this transfer period.
Will Rodrygo Be A Dream Choice For Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola?
Rodrygo excels at generating some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has also got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the final third and is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet.
The Brazilian attacker mainly operates as a right-winger but can also serve as a left-sided wide player or as a centre-forward if told to do so by his manager. He would bring a lot of quality to Man City boss Pep Guardiola’s attack.
At 23, Rodrygo has his best years ahead of him which makes him a dream choice for the Mancunian club to consider this month. He has got the winning mindset to help Man City challenge for a lot of major silverware over the next decade.
However, it remains to be seen whether Rodrygo can maintain his good form in the Premier League if Guardiola manages to bring him to the Etihad Stadium before the end of this summer transfer window.
