In a recent report, journalist Steve Kay mentioned that Manchester City are keeping a keen eye on Brighton and Hove Albion forward Evan Ferguson. It is believed that Pep Guardiola’s men are facing competition in the form of Arsenal in pursuit of the Republic of Ireland international.
Ferguson’s Impressive Rise At Brighton
The 19-year-old caught the eye at times for the Seagulls in the previous campaign when he put in a string of impressive displays as the focal point of their attack. Ferguson registered six goals and secured one assist in 36 matches for Brighton last season in various competitions.
The talented forward struggled to be consistent with his contributions in the final third as he averaged 1.2 shots, 0.2 key passes and 0.3 dribbles per game in Premier League football. However, he was tidy when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 81.3% in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Brighton will run out in the summer of 2029 which could make it difficult for Man City to sign him on the cheap this month.
What Will Ferguson Bring To Manchester City?
Ferguson can find some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He can be a good finisher in the final third when he is playing well on the field. However, the Republic of Ireland whizkid has to find a way to be more consistent with his offensive contributions if he wants to mature as a footballer.
Ferguson is primarily a centre-forward but can also function as a winger on either flank if needed. Standing at 1.88m, he is a strong presence in the air as well. We can expect Ferguson to bring more firepower to Man City boss Pep Guardiola‘s attack.
At 19, the gifted forward has the potential to be a world-class player in his position someday. Furthermore, Guardiola could be the ideal man to oversee his development and unlock the best out of the player at the Mancunian club.
Therefore, Man City should focus on getting a deal over the line for Ferguson in this summer transfer window as he would be a decent signing for them in the long run.
