As revealed by renowned transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are seriously considering signing Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili who will cost more than €30m, in this summer transfer window.
Giorgi Mamardashvili is already an established goalkeeper
Giorgi Mamardashvili came to Valencia in the summer of 2021 as a loanee. Impressed by his performances in the pre-season, the Spanish club decided to allot him the primary shot-stopper position. As he continued with his displays, he was finally signed on a permanent basis next season.
Mamardashivili has been an automatic pick for Valencia over the past few seasons. He has been rock solid between the sticks and broke many records for the club. He featured in 37 games last season and managed to keep 13 clean sheets while conceding 41 goals.
The Georgian goalkeeper is known for his strong blocks and quick reflexes. He is fast and commands his area well due to his long reach and good height. He also remains calm and composed under pressure, reflecting his high confidence.
A long-term replacement for Alisson Becker?
Now that Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi has decided against joining Liverpool this summer, the English outfit can focus on other deals. There is still enough time to crack more deals and bolster the unit for next season. With the Reds convinced with their midfield line-up, they are considering signing Giorgi Mamardashvili.
The approach makes sense as the club would require the replacement of Alisson Becker, who has 12 months left on his contract. Though they have Caoimhin Kelleher at their disposal, he is unlikely to be the first-choice keeper anytime soon.
In that aspect, Mamardashvili can be a perfect fit considering his quality and consistency. He has all the qualities to succeed in the English league. The 23-year-old can take up the primary role next season once Alisson leaves the club.
