According to Football Insider, Liverpool have recently held talks with free agent Adrien Rabiot over a possible summer move. However, the Premier League club will only sign him if they fail to procure Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi.
Adrien Rabiot hasn’t found a club yet
Adrien Rabiot came through the ranks of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and made a name for himself. He then made a switch to Juventus in the summer of 2019, where established himself as one of their key performers. He also became a regular member of the French national side.
Rabiot featured in 35 games, netting five goals and providing three assists. He averaged 1.9 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, and 0.9 clearances per game (stats via whoscored). Following the last season, he left the club as a free agent and is yet to find his new home.
The French international likes to play with freedom in the middle of the park. He can make defensive contributions as he is excellent with tackles and interceptions. However, being more of a box-to-box midfielder, he likes to get involved in the offensive aspects as well.
Martin Zubimendi will make his decision soon
Liverpool’s first priority remains signing Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi as he is a proper defensive midfielder. The English outfit is involved in negotiations with the Spanish club and is even ready to activate the €60m release clause if needed.
However, as manager Imanol Alguacil is pushing Zubimendi to stay for next season, anything can happen. The player has yet to decide on his future. Hence, it makes sense for the Reds to keep other options open in the market.
For now, Liverpool have contacted Adrien Rabiot, who is a free agent. As the profile isn’t similar, the French player will bring different qualities at Anfield. A charity on this transfer saga is expected to come in the coming days as there is not much time left in the summer window.
