According to a report from journalist Nacho Sanchis, Liverpool are keen on signing Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili this summer. The Premier League club believe he could be a long-term replacement for Alisson Becker.
Giorgi Mamardashvili has been rock solid for Valencia
After representing multiple clubs, Giorgi Mamardashvili arrived at Valencia in the summer of 2021. Impressed by his pre-season performances, he earned the starting position immediately. As time passed, he proved his stakes and established himself as a reliable name on the team sheet.
Mamardashvili did a decent job last season for the Spanish side. He featured in 37 games and managed to keep 13 clean sheets while conceding 41 goals. His progress haven’t gone unnoticed as several clubs are keeping an eye on him.
The Georgian shot-stopper is known for his good reach, quick reflexes and strong hands. He commands his area really well and helps in building attacks from the back. Standing at 6’5″, he makes aerial dominance and collects crosses really well.
A long-term replacement for Alisson Becker?
It won’t be unfair to say that Alisson Becker is a Liverpool legend. His contributions to the club’s success over the past decade cannot be ignored. However, the clubs understand that they will need to replace him between the sticks really soon.
Though Beckar is staying this summer, he is expected to depart following the end of the season. Hence, the Reds want to be well-prepared to fill his big shoes. Therefore, they have shown interest in Valencia shot-stopper Giorgi Mamardashvili.
Signing the 23-year-old will cost €30 million, an amount that Liverpool can pay easily. After the paperwork, the English outfit is expected to loan him back to Valencia for another season. It will allow the goalkeeper to continue developing his game at the highest level. Once Beckar decides to leave Anfield, Mamardashvili can be integrated into the first team.
