According to ESPN, Liverpool and Valencia are negotiating terms for the transfer of goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili this summer. Though a deal hasn’t been finalised yet, the Premier League club are positive about cracking an agreement.
Giorgi Mamardashvili is ready to leave Valencia
Giorgi Mamardashvili arrived at Valencia in the summer of 2021 as a loanee. Interestingly, he was made the primary goalkeeper, courtesy of his impressive pre-season displays. As he continued to do well, the Spanish side signed him on a permanent deal in the winter.
Mamardashvili has been a reliable performer for Valencia over the past few seasons. In the 2023-24 campaign, he featured in 37 games and managed to keep 13 clean sheets while conceding 41. He also impressed at Euro 2024, where he helped Georgia reach the semis.
The Georgian is a highly-rated goalkeeper, who is bound to have a bright future. Due to his long reach, he commands his area well in both the ground and the air. His composure and ball-playing abilities add to the team’s strength.
A long-term investment for Liverpool
Liverpool’s summer window has been quite so far. They badly wanted to sign Real Sociedad midfielder Martín Zubimendi but that move didn’t materialize as the player decided to stay at his boyhood club. On the other hand, the club couldn’t make much progress to acquire Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon.
Hence, the Reds have dropped the intention of getting an impactful name this summer. However, they are willing to complete the signing of goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, keeping the future in mind. As Alisson Becker is on the wrong side of the 30, the club will have to replace him soon.
Liverpool and Valencia are discussing a fee of around €40 million. The English outfit will loan the player back to the Spanish side this summer, where he will continue to develop his game. Once Alisson Becker or Caoimhín Kelleher leaves the club, they will provide him with a prominent role in the squad.
